Mail Call - The Spaw Update (3.1)

Five months later, the next update has arrived!

I don't want to go in-depth as to why I and Mail Call itself have been absent within this specific post, since this is where I'll include the changelog. However, I will have a separate post written regarding the game design.

This may look like a minor expansion to the Motion Update at first, but trust me, a lot of the features within this update are pretty much why it took me so long in the first place!

Why Spaw Update?

The Motion Update was a large update that took energy out of me and ended up in a hiatus. Alongside managing my mental health and planning the structure for the rest of the game's development, I was considering the bigger picture when working on and off of 3.1. It wasn't until the weekend I'm releasing 3.1 that I got around to the heavy lifting.

This update was developed in order to complete several processes I started in the Motion Update and planned to finish, such as animations, bosses, a proper save/load feature, and more!

Additions and Changes

This section covers new additions and major improvements. Scroll down to see the minor changes.

  • The main menu has been added where you can start a new game or load your save file. *NOTE: Make sure you save your game at the End Shop for the Continue button's function to activate!
  • The Level Select theme was overhauled. You might not hear the complete difference, but I basically enhanced and edited a new loop of it!
  • Instructions have been added to certain levels to allow accessibility and understanding regarding the controls.
  • Some of Pop's levels have dark background lighting.
  • Added the Spaw minibosses! You must shoot and defeat the buzzsaws as spikes spawn randomly around you!
  • Added a secret path for Pop to the Raptorech fight!
  • Changed the Rick Roll location and improved the Rick Roll scene itself.
  • New Fidget enemies were added to Bop's levels!
  • More sprites have been animated.
  • The Raptorech fight has drastically improved. Enemies spawn differently as you're fighting the main boss and the hitbox and hit count both changed on Raptorech.
Improvements

This section covers the rest of the minor features within this update.

  • The End Shop has been tweaked.
  • Music placement has been swapped around.
  • The title screen now has the Harold logo.

That's about it! If you're curious about what took place during the hiatus and the future for Mail Call updates, be sure to check out the first status update post. Thanks for checking in and hope you enjoy the update!
